would you grant a law which made it legal for nudists to walk around unclothed in your shire / city / town / principality / state / country / district / county / region / submarine / system of interconnected caves / hilltop / hometown / village / villa / castle / blimp / planet / fortress / continent / lawn / tower / server / universe / province?

Probably so, yes. If we stopped collectively clutching our pearls because someone might see a human body being a human body, I think that people would be happier and healthier. But public places to sit would rapidly disappear, because humans are nasty.

Apparently it arguably already is, at least in some cases, but nevertheless it's really, really rare for anyone to actually do it, as evidenced by the fact that I had to look it up. This confirms my intuition that the law wouldn't make much of a difference, because there'd still be a ton of social pressure against it.

As such, I don't see any reason not to make it more definitively legal, but neither do I see a strong object-level need to legalise it asap. Which means the meta principle of "don't outlaw behaviours just because they're Weird, only do it if they harm others" gets to make the decision.

It's bad enough that people touch public objects with their bare *hands*, given how wildly varying sanitation standards are.

(Customer, casually: "Yeah, we're sick, that's why we went for fast food instead of cooking ourselves."

Me (a cashier, watching her press buttons on the credit-card reader that everyone else is going to have to press), internally: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA")

(Meanwhile, I have encountered at least one person on rat-Tumblr (don't remember who) who honestly believes that others will *both* notice *and* care if you shower every two days instead of every one, and feels pressured to destroy their skin with excessive showering. I wonder where *they* live, and if people there still touch credit-card readers while sick.)

[personal profile] flaksesomlys makes some good points for why it probably shouldn't be *technically* illegal, but I would certainly not push for increased *acceptance*.
